Conversation with the COOP Bank

I rang the coop, my generally good and "Ethical" bank. Asked them if they'd put in place alternative donation to wikileaks features for their customers they hadn't. However by they're phone preparedness and manner I clearly wasn't the first to call.

They read out an official statement which doesn't appear to be available on line. In essence it said "Visa not us" and "We have no position"

I was disappointed by this so I went to the ethical feed back section of they're website and posted this:

Your Wikileaks statement, just read out to me by your customer service department is disappointing and inadequate.
I, like many of your customers bank with you for ethical reasons, you should:
Support, Wikileaks, openly, as they seek to expose the corrupt and financially devious you claim to be against.
Provide an alternative means for your customers to donate to Wikileaks.
Put pressure on Master Card and Visa.
Your statement - which I have been unable to find online saying you'll just do what visa says is weak in the extreme. I doubt you have much clout with visa, but If you a bank, were to speak out and openly criticise them you would be listened to and I suspect reported.
Please do so.

Long before the American leaks broke, wikileaks has been exposing Barclays tax dodges Northern Rock shenanigans and many other financial scandals who's outing should tick all your ethics boxes.
